Sending Potential Buyers to Your Razorpage
Once your Razorpage is set up, you will have a place to send potential buyers to. While many authors already have their own website, usually these websites are not equipped with a shopping cart. These authors will usually refer potential buyers to Amazon or to Barnes and Nobles to buy their book. But these service providers will generally take up to 60% of the selling price for their services.
So if you don’t have your own shopping cart function, then sending your potential buyers to your Razorpage will let you keep most of your sales proceeds as the Razorpages fee is only 10%. The reason our fee is so low is that Razorpages is not a bookseller like Amazon or Barnes and Nobles. We are an author promotion company helping authors sell their books.
In addition, Razorpages has reserved prime space on the home page, as well as at the top of key search pages for authors who drive the most traffic to their pages on a monthly basis. We will feature these as the most popular authors at key places on our site. These books will also be featured in the Razorpages monthly newsletter.
Blogging
Besides being a cost-effective place to sell your books, your Razorpage comes equipped with blogging capability. A weblog (or just blog for short) is a new tool many people are using today to promote themselves, to promote their business, to write a daily journal or to just interact with the world at large.
One of our founding members and an author of 10 books, is Dr. William Guillory. Bill has been blogging now for about seven months and has over 2,000 unique visitors to his blog site each month. Bill will be driving this traffic to Razorpages.
Bill is just one author. Now let’s say we have 100 authors who on average get 500 unique visitors each month. That’s 50,000 visitors a month. When we have 1,000 authors on Razorpages, we’ll have over 500,000 visitors each month. You can begin to see the power of this community.
Referrals
When a friend of mine tells me I should read a certain book, I always go find that book, buy it and read it. Referrals are powerful marketing tools. When you blog and drive traffic to your Razorpage, you will be creating what we call a “passive” referral. Because your page is linked to all the other author pages, a visitor to your site may just happen to start browsing through other sites. And visitors to other author sites may just happen to come check out your book as well. These are passive referrals.
You may also want to make a “direct” referral. If your book fits in the self-help genre, for example, you may want to refer your potential book buyers to another author’s Razorpage. The best way to get referrals is to give referrals. The operators of Razorpages cannot control this part of the website. Authors will either do this or they won’t, but we hope that a sense of community will develop and that authors will find it rewarding to give and receive referrals.
We will also help to facilitate the formation of communities with other authors through our Authors Connect program. If you are interested in identifying an author with whom you feel you are aligned, you can complete a short questionnaire on the Authors Connect page. We keep all of these on file, and will send you the information of another author who seems to be aligned with you—at that point, it will be up to you to determine if you would like to work together.
Shopping Cart
You may also sell your books through Razorpages if you wish in any of the following formats—hard cover, soft cover, CD audio book, MP3 audio book, or e-book. Razorpages will only take 10% over the price that you set for your book in any form. For hard cover, soft cover or CD audio books, our fulfillment house takes them on consignment, so you will receive your royalties for sales on a quarterly basis. Royalties are totaled on or about March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31and are distributed shortly thereafter.
